BADASS AUTHOR, LORI M. LEE

Lori M. Lee is the author of Gates of Thread and Stone and The Infinite. She has a borderline obsessive fascination with unicorns, is fond of talking in capslock, and loves to write about magic, manipulation, and family. She lives in Wisconsin with her husband, kids, and a friendly pitbull.

Now, let's get to know this badass a little better...

What is your favorite word?
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. Just kidding. Kind of. I don’t actually have a favorite word. Even when I try, I’m just incapable of narrowing any aspect of myself into a single representational object/thing. Well, and I’m the most indecisive person in the wooooorld. I’m that person who takes two hours at the grocery store because I have to mull over whether I need almost every item in my cart. So to pick a favorite WORD? Amidst a million?! (And that’s just the English language.)

As you can see, I’m also gifted with turning one word answers into whole essays.

What is your least favorite word?
See above.

What sound or noise do you love?
Silence. At least when I’m writing. When I’m not writing, I love hearing my 2yo laugh.

What sound or noise do you hate?
Fireworks at midnight across the street from my house which results in debris littering my yard in the morning and an extremely unhappy Lori. That was perhaps too specific. Also: SpongeBob.

What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
Paleontologist because dinosaurs are freaking awesome. Or librarian because I think I’d rock at that.

What profession would you not like to do?
I probably should not be a professional football player. That wouldn’t be pretty.

What is your favorite color Popsicle?
Rainbow.

Sprinklers or Slip N Slide?
Sprinklers. I walk on the wild side.

Favorite John Hughes Movie?
I think I’m supposed to say The Breakfast Club, but I’ve never actually made it through one entire viewing of the film (I’ve probably seen the whole thing, just in various chunks over the years). I’m not actually a huge fan of his films. Although I remember liking Home Alone as a kid.

Last song you listened to?
Safe and Sound by Taylor Swift.

What book do you wish you would have written because it’s just that good?
American Gods by Neil Gaiman. That book. OMG THAT BOOK.

In one sentence or less, what does every aspiring-author need to know?
Read, read, read, read, read, and read.

Okay, Lori came dangerously close to not being a badass with that John Hughes answer *coughs* but her favorite word question made up for it so...yeah, she's a badass.

Now, here's a peek at GATES OF THREAD AND STONE that you can find in the AGAINST THE ODDS prize pack:

In the Labyrinth, we had a saying: keep silent, keep still, keep safe.

In a city of walls and secrets, where only one man is supposed to possess magic, seventeen-year-old Kai struggles to keep hidden her own secret—she can manipulate the threads of time. When Kai was eight, she was found by Reev on the riverbank, and her “brother” has taken care of her ever since. Kai doesn’t know where her ability comes from—or where she came from. All that matters is that she and Reev stay together, and maybe one day move out of the freight container they call home, away from the metal walls of the Labyrinth. Kai’s only friend is Avan, the shopkeeper’s son with the scandalous reputation that both frightens and intrigues her.

Then Reev disappears. When keeping silent and safe means losing him forever, Kai vows to do whatever it takes to find him. She will leave the only home she’s ever known and risk getting caught up in a revolution centuries in the making. But to save Reev, Kai must unravel the threads of her past and face shocking truths about her brother, her friendship with Avan, and her unique power.

Most people want to save the world; seventeen-year-old Tora Reynolds just wants to get off of it. One of the last survivors in Earth's final years, Tora yearns to escape the wasteland her planet has become after the sun turns "red giant," but discovers her fellow survivors are even deadlier than the hostile environment.

Holed up in an underground shelter, Tora is alone--her brilliant scientist father murdered, her mother and sister burned to death. She dreams of living on a planet with oceans, plants, and animals. Unfortunately, the oceans dried out ages ago, the only plants are giant cacti with deadly spines, and her pet, Trigger, is a gun--one of the bio-energetic weapons her father created for the government before his conscience kicked in.

When family friend, Markus, arrives with mercenaries to take the weapons by force, Tora's fury turns to fear when government ships descend in an attempt to kill them all. She forges an unlikely alliance with Markus and his rag-tag group of raiders, including a smart but quiet soldier named James. Tora must quickly figure out who she can trust, as she must choose between saving herself by giving up the guns or honoring her father's request to save humanity from the most lethal weapons in existence.

For fans of Gone Girl, I Hunt Killers, and TV's How to Get Away with Murder.

Max Cantrell has never been a big fan of the truth, so when the opportunity arises to sell forged permission slips and cover stories to his classmates, it sounds like a good way to make a little money and liven up a boring senior year. With the help of his friends Preston and Parvati, Max starts Liars, Inc. Suddenly everybody needs something and the cash starts pouring in. Who knew lying could be so lucrative?

When Preston wants his own cover story to go visit a girl he met online, Max doesn’t think twice about hooking him up. Until Preston never comes home. Then the evidence starts to pile up—terrifying clues that lead the cops to Preston’s body. Terrifying clues that point to Max as the murderer.

Can Max find the real killer before he goes to prison for a crime he didn’t commit? In a story that Kirkus Reviews called "Captivating to the very end," Paula Stokes starts with one single white lie and weaves a twisted tale that will have readers guessing until the explosive final chapters.

In 1930s Munich, danger lurks behind dark corners, and secrets are buried deep within the city. But Gretchen Müller, who grew up in the National Socialist Party under the wing of her uncle Dolf, has been shielded from that side of society ever since her father traded his life for Dolf’s, and Gretchen is his favorite, his pet.

Uncle Dolf is none other than Adolf Hitler. And Gretchen follows his every command.

Until she meets a fearless and handsome young Jewish reporter named Daniel Cohen, who claims that her father, the adored Nazi martyr, was actually murdered by an unknown comrade. She should despise Daniel, yet she can’t stop herself from listening to his story—she also can’t resist the attraction brewing between them, despite everything she’s been taught to believe.

As Gretchen investigates the very people she’s always considered friends, she must decide where her loyalties lie. Will she choose the safety of her former life as a Nazi darling, or will she dare to dig up the truth—even if it could get her and Daniel killed?
